Multiple projects streamlined for performance

Overview

This project is a $60 million, four-story building that, along with additional parking and other renovations, will add up to an expansion that’s the largest for the public hospital in 16 years. The project will improve the Covington hospital’s environment for critical care and women’s and children’s care allowing them to keep up with continuing population growth on the north shore. 

Peritia’s team worked on four individual projects, each with its own notice-to-proceed and duration associated with liquidated damages; three of the four involved renovating existing facilities in phases to ensure the owner move-out as the hospital was being used while renovations were taking place, and the fourth project was the construction of a new building. For these projects, Peritia oversaw the planning and scheduling scope inclusive of conducting pull planning sessions, developing a coordinated plan of construction, implementing Primavera P6 and CPM scheduling techniques to develop a baseline schedule, performing periodic schedule updates and schedule oversight. Peritia also incorporated four different project schedules into one larger program schedule, performed monthly reporting on all four projects’ slippage/gain with respect to their own substantial completion date, tracked material for long lead times specialty items such as steam boilers, morgues, etc. Owner move-out was critical to starting various phases within each project, and as a result, when the owner delayed their move-out, Peritia tracked the delays in the schedule to record that our client was not responsible for the late start of those phases.

Solution

Through Peritia’s involvement, our client was able to track four different projects with different substantial completion dates within one single P6 schedule to simplify and streamline monitoring and reporting, and also meet the owner (a government agency)’s requirement to perform all monthly schedule reporting through a third party scheduler.
